lady_mab: (faction before blood)
I decided that I really need to start being more proactive about my (lack of) productivity when it comes to things. I spend too much time sitting around doing nothing but refreshing tumblr. In my (current) defense, it is way too hot to care about doing anything BUT that. Cleaning? Dishes?! Fuck, ain't no one got the constitution for that. It's uncomfortably warm and stuffy and muggy. Gross.

Anyway, I was considering this yesterday, especially since at the moment I Have been having a lot of half-shifts and days off due to the Water Park being closed during the week. I figure I just need to start being a bit more forceful when it comes to getting up and doing things -- because when I do, I get things done. It just takes that bit of effort.

So, I plan to start acting accordingly! At the moment, due to my new year's goal being writing every day and getting 25k every month, I'm going to focus on that. But there are a lot of books coming out, and I have a shitton of books on my TBR list that I don't even want to make a TBR list. I have so many crafts that need to be done, laundry that needs to be put away, paperwork for healthcare to look over. I need to be an adult! Ugh.

The first part of that plan is creating a breakdown for things. Yeah, I'm going to be one of those people who schedules her days. It will be a fun challenge to wrap up the year with, and possibly carry over into the new year (in which it will help me with my new goal of reading a certain number of books in a year!)

- Having an hour to just sit down and write. This can be even sitting down to do a blog post (if I start counting them toward my word count, which I Haven't been yet), or writing in a journal. One hour dedicated to writing, even if it is just three words in the end. Turn off the internet and write. Can't do much else during that hour.
- Watch an episode of a show. I have so many anime discs sitting around unwatched because I buy them and go "I'll rewatch this one day". So why not try and incorporate it into my routine? On days I have off, or days that I don't have a long shift at work, I can watch more.
- An hour of video games! I have so many that I need to make my way through, and I generally can't play some of them very long because I get motion sickness (not as bad as it used to be at least). Also, make an effort to check my Animal Crossing village before actually settling in to play ;a; I haven't played in so long I think they have all left me.
- Set aside time for crafts! This can easily be mixed in with watching an episode -- and even more productive on days when I "allow" myself to marathon episodes. This is why I started crochet in the first place -- to give me something to do as I listened to WTNV. Now I can crochet (not that I'm making anything, mostly just practicing...) or work on those jellyfish. Or start scrapbooking officially!
- Always read before going to bed. Make sure to head off before I get too tired, so I can make sure that I can get in at least an hour. This will be increased next year, as I want to try and do a reading challenge. But at the moment, I can at least manage this much and get through two of the currently-reading that I've been sloughing my way through!

Things like listening to audio books or WTNV episodes are best saved for when I'm going on trips. If I'm driving I can't double up, but if I take the train again, or someone else is driving, I'd be able to do something like crochet or play a handheld game that doesn't require thought.

In all honesty, one of my worst fears is not being able to read all the books I have, or play all the video games I have.

Assuming I get home at 6, this is roughly 3.5 hours on average (depending on the show I'm watching). Throwing in time for food, chatting with roommates, relaxing, etc, I'm still looking at capping off around 11. Give or take. Like I said, I'm prioritizing writing. So if I have to sacrifice something, the video games and TV shows will be the first to go.

Of course, this doesn't account for any time during Camp/NaNo or when books come out (I'M LOOKING AT YOU, LOCKWOOD, CABAL, AND CLARIEL), in which all I will be doing is reading those and making sure I carve out at least five minutes to write.

So. Yeah. I'm going to try and get started on that over the next few days! I have the next two days off, but I might do something with Xavier tomorrow (or I might convince him to come over and marathon sleepy hollow or darker than black with me so I can work on jellyfish) and Thursday I'm going to be at my parents' house so I can pick up my mom from work.

WISH ME LUCK. I'm going to me a "currently" post with books I'm reading, video games I'm playing, and stories I'm writing. Just because!

I didn't get to go to the beach today because it was SO CROWDED but it was a gorgeous day. Next time i will try harder or park further away and walk, but I was tired from work so I went home and read on the back porch.

Work was crazy busy today. There were a lot of annoyed people, but it was mostly because they don't understand things and the lines were long. Ahn, Gregg and I were wandering around turns and helping the four new people and three first-week people. I'm glad that everyone seams to be pretty chill and don't hesitated to call for help. I had been watching one of the new kids and then someone nudged me and asked me a question and my first thought was "OH GOD THE CUSTOMER JUST NUDGED ME" until I realised it was one of the first-week kids haha Which was fine, because again it just means that they're comfortable here already. Picked up a shift tomorrow for training someone at tolls! This will be exciting. I don't know who I'm training either. Megan and Christina (who I helped train at turns) start training at 9:30 tomorrow, Dominique I thought was getting trained tomorrow with Nick but then Ryan trained him at ticket booth today so idk it will be a surprise! It will be crazy busy tomorrow, too! But the water park opened today and, again, it was a super gorgeous day. And spring break season is starting.

I got super long hours next week (though I'm trying to get off on Thursday before 2 since I have my orientation at 3 and I told them that but they scheduled me until 6). But long hours means more money. I even get a shift at north gate, which means YAY READING! But ugh closing window Monday and opening window on Tuesday is kind of miserable. I am also sad that a lot of my friends are going to the water park which means I'll never see them again haha uguu

Making progress on those 6-word story alphabet prompts! Let's see, out of the 43 I have received, I have completed 19. Almost halfway. Some of them are amusing (like cabbages and moustache), and some of them I really like (like queen and after). Once I finish them all, I'll put them all in one big post.

Took the assessment test for English for the tutoring gig. Um. A few typos, made me cringe in general, and gave me a headache. It wasn't fun. It made me quite sad.

[personal profile] kit_kit and [personal profile] maraudersara have been doing character memes for their [community profile] fantasybigbang characters. Because I like to follow their trends, I shall do some as well. I'll start off with just Ren and Beryl (next post), since they are the main characters, and then see if I want to do anyone else after that (I might, because I'm including both the FBB and the NaNo time-lines into this). Right-oh.

Tonight's six word story:

Alright I was going to go make a to-do list on Tumblr but then I went "NO. WHY SHOULD I. I NEED TO GO BACK TO ABUSING MY DW/LJ MORE." Because this is what it is for: Bloggy things.

So, here we go: This is a list of things I need to do before the 15th, but mostly over the next three days. Writing them down multiple times helps me remember them

Today:
+ Print manips and mail them out
+ Call US Healthworks and figure out if they have my TB record
- Called: They should have it--!
+ Get finger printed (remember: print out 3 copies of live scan form)
+ Get milk (also, remember to get debit card from mum for tomorrow)

Thursday:
+ Work from 9:30-2:30
+ Possible TB Test...?

+ Do credit score test
+ Grocery shopping + make dinner (provided parents will be home not late)

Friday:
+ Get TB test checked after 2:30
+ Online assessment and fill out application
+ Gym, because I'm not going today (/nvm)

Saturday:
+ Work from 8:45-12:45
+ Gym, because why not I will need it
+ If weather is nice, skip the gym, go to the beach!

Things with no real set deadline but preferably soon:
+ Schedule for writing
+ ML message for NaNo, post on ScriptFrenzy board, probably fill out ML form for that
+ Clean my room
+ Print out transcript

Dates to remember:
+ 3/10: REMUS' BIRTHDAY YES THIS IS IMPORTANT (/FANGIRL FOREVER)
+ 3/11: Daylight Savings Time ugh there goes an hour
+ 3/15: Orientation at 3 in Escondido
+ 3/17: Info services skype meeting
+ 3/18-19: HOPEFULLY GOING TO VISIT KIT AHHHHHHH (/all my love)
+ 3/20: Ostara! Making hot cross buns yum yum
+ 3/22: GOTTA GET READY FOR HUNGER GAMES (figure out plans with Tiffany, Kelsey, and Erika)

Okay. Okay? I think that is it. I feel bad for not going to the gym today but right now I just feel really stressed out with suddenly realising that I can't wait to get the finger printing done because it takes 5 days to process and my orientation is on the 15th and god damn why couldn't the tell me sooner?

In other news, it's pretty much certain that I have the tutoring job by the sound of the email. It also sounds like I've been slated into the "1-on-1 Tutoring with Laptops", though I wasn't aware of that (which means they need to check my credit score since I'll be supplied with a laptop and broadband card? oh. But I did an "estimated credit score" online and it looks like I'll be above 610 so yay).

Man I feel like I'm wasting the day but it's only 9:30.

Did my three photomanips last night. I'll have to find a staples or something where I can get them printed out. Or if I figure out where I'm going for the Finger Printing and then see if there is a copy store near there. I don't know. I'll figure it out. I'm proud (enough) of them, though they're not my best. And they won't be framed like the one I received but. I need to write up a note with 1) an apology for taking so long and 2) the story behind them.

I finished reading Dandelion Fire last night and I looooved it. I can't wait to get Chestnut King. I get paid on Friday so I'll order it then, depending on how much I spend between now and then. But it was even better than the first (100 Cupboards) and I'm sad I don't know anyone else who has read it but alas. I liked Monmouth. I hope he's in the next book ahur I also still ship Henry and Henrietta even though they are like 12 and cousins. I CANNOT BE STOPPED Next up on my reading list is trying to decide if I want to reread Hunger Games or Artemis Fowl next. The overall goal is to reread 2 Fowl books a month (well, just 1 in June) in preparation for the release of the last one in July. I can seriously read those two (Artemis Fowl + Arctic Incident) in about three days total, though it will likely only take me three days to read HG. Then I'll... hunt down How to Break Your Dragon's Heart. I think I'll have to buy it. But hopefully I'll also know sometime soon if I've been accepted or not to Clarion (probably not) and if I'll need to read anything by the instructors. We'll see.

Uh. I feel like I had other things to say but I don't remember. So I guess I'll just end it here.

Seeing Kit and Sara do all those 6-word stories made me want to start doing some as well. When I start my writing rotation, the stories will be based on whatever I'm writing for that day. But for now, they'll just be whatever.

"I know," he said, and Fell.
