How to play: Find the word in any WIP and comment with the sentence containing it. Just the one, ideally! The less context, the more hilarious & interesting it can be.

- All fandoms, all ships, all writers welcome
- Give a head's up for disturbing/distressing content
- If you share a sentence, please read some left by other writers and drop at least one person a comment. (If you leave the first comment, thanks for starting us off and please stop back later!)

Voiceteam 2026 Round 2

May. 11th, 2026 08:01 pm
forzandopod: (Default)
[personal profile] forzandopod posting in [community profile] voiceteam

MATHTEAM:

Imagine traveling to an alternate dimension in which you have signed up for a competitive points-based event called Mathteam. (For some reason, every Mathteam submission needs to be connected to audio fanworks in some way. Don’t question the rules of dimensional travel, just go with it!) Create something that you can turn in for that event. NO FOLLOW-UP QUESTIONS ALLOWED.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

PODLUCK:

As a group, choose a fandom (or make up some original characters) and either a tone or a story premise. Then each participating player will write and record 5–10 sentences that could be part of a story that fits the agreed-upon fandom and tone/premise. You may not discuss or look at anyone else's sentences until your own are submitted. Once all the recordings are collected, arrange the sentences into a coherent story, ensuring at least one sentence from every contributing player is included.

Point value: 40 points for each player who contributes.

STONE COLD:

Create a podfic of a fic posted more than 5 years ago. Bonus if the fic was posted more than 10 years ago. (Other audio fanworks, such as filks or audio meta, also qualify for this challenge, if they are based on fannish works posted more than 5/10 years ago.)

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes, +5 if the text was posted more than 10 years ago.

CHARACTER CLINIC:

Have a conversation (text or verbal) with one or more people where you discuss how to perform a particular character. You might share thoughts about vocal qualities, rhythms, personality traits, or other ways to evoke that character with your performance. For the rest of the round after the conversation has ended, anyone who was present for the conversation can earn points for recording audio fanworks with that character, hopefully letting some aspects of the conversation inform their performance! (For no additional points, just added fun, any verbal conversations can be submitted to Behind the Pod, a fest for podfic meta and discussions!)

Point value: 10 points for each player who contributes to the conversation. 35 points for each player who contributes to an audio fanwork where someone who was present for the conversation voices the character discussed.

I SPY:

Have a teammate name a color. Find something you can currently see that is that color. Whatever you have found is your prompt—make an audio fanwork from that prompt. (You must get a new prompt for each audio fanwork you make for this challenge.)

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes. (Naming the color is not enough to count as a contribution for points.)

ALL ACCESS:

Create something related to audio fanworks that increases accessibility in fandom. For example, create a podfic of a work without a current podfic, create a transcript of an audio-only work, add image descriptions for cover art to 5 posts, create a no-music/effects version of a podfic, or something else. If you have other ideas for increasing accessibility in fandom, please feel free to ask. They will probably count!

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes. If you are completing a lower-effort task for this challenge that doesn't feel worth 35 points on its own, please submit a set of them (your choice the size of the set) that do feel worth 35 points—in other words, the approximate equivalent effort of creating an audio fanwork.

REPLICATION:

Choose an audio fanwork you or a team member created. Create an object that was featured in that audio fanwork. For example, cook a meal eaten in the fanwork, recreate a document mentioned in the fanwork, draw a doodle/paint a painting described in the fanwork, etc.

Point value: 20 points for each player who contributes, +20 if it requires significant time, effort, or energy on your part.

RUNNING COMMENTARY:

Go to an audio fanwork you've already finished, and add in a running audio commentary. The commentary should be spread throughout the audio fanwork, not just at the end. To do this, listen back to your audio fanwork, pause when you have something to say, and record it. Edit the bits of recorded commentary directly into the original audio file to create a running-commentary version!

Point value: 40 points for each player who contributes.

PASS IT ON:

Working together with one or more other players, record an audio fanwork sequentially in parts. Each contributing player will listen to everything that has been previously recorded for the work, record their own part, and then pass it along to the next person. The newly recorded part may either come after the parts recorded before or be layered on top of them (as in added sound effects, improvised reactions, or vocal harmonies).

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

FREAKY FRIDAY:

Create a multivoice recording. Then create a second version with the roles switched around. Bonus for making more than 2 versions, with different roles in each version.

Point value: 50 points for each player who contributes to a pair of podfics, +10 for each version beyond the first two. Contributions other than voice only earn points if they are done separately for each podfic (e.g. making an entirely different cover for each version).

[personal profile] eafay70 posting in [community profile] voiceteam
POP THE CHAMPAGNE:
Contribute to someone's first time making a new format of fanwork. That someone could be yourself, another Voiceteam player, or even someone outside of Voiceteam! Possible new formats include podfic, written fic, oral not!fic, podfic with a director, podcast, filk, vid, visual novel, etc.

Point value: 45 points for each player who contributes. For a list of possible ways to contribute, see the message on the Voiceteam server.

HOT OFF THE PRESSES:
Create an audio fanwork of a text that was posted to AO3 under 24 hours before you pressed record.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

LISTEN TO YOUR HEART:
Listen to one or more audio fanworks while doing something kind for someone else. Examples: Make a meal or treat for them, make them a gift or card, send them a thoughtful text while listening to filk, take a task unexpectedly off their plate by doing it for them, etc. Bonus points if something you do not normally do for this person.

Point value: 20 points for each audio fanwork you listen to while doing something kind for someone else, +5 if it meets the bonus condition.

PODPOSAL:
Reach out to another player whose work you admire and invite them to collab with you on an audio fanwork. You can use this resource for ideas of how to find Voiceteam players whose works you admire, how to phrase your invitation, and how to phrase your responses to invitations from others.

Point value: 20 points for reaching out but not collaborating (i.e. the other player said no). 35 points for each player who contributes to an audio fanwork.

ROCK OUT:
Include a live instrument in your audio fanwork in some way. Your voice does not count as an instrument, but other than that creativity IS allowed, so feel free to make a shaker out of a pill bottle or bang a fork on a spoon, etc. Bonus points for an often maligned instrument, such as kazoo, ukulele, cow bell, or bagpipes.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes, +10 for an often maligned instrument.

DUCK, DUCK, GOOSE:
Participate in a game of podfic Duck Duck Goose. You can find the rules here. Points for each audio fanwork you create yourself, and points for each audio fanwork by another player you listen to and react to.

Point value: 40 points for each player who contributes to an audio fanwork created while playing DUCK, DUCK, GOOSE. (For a contribution to count, it must happen within the 5-minute period after the "Goose!" message is sent.) 10 points for each time you listen and react to an audio fanwork created by another player as part of DUCK, DUCK, GOOSE.

SUN SALUTATION:
Create a new pre-recording routine with at least 2 elements you don't usually do. (Examples: stretches, vocal warmups, specific food or drinks, strategies to emotionally connect to the story or characters, etc.) Every audio fanwork you record using this routine gets points.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes.

PITCH N’ POD:
Introduce one or more other Voiceteam players to a fandom they didn't know before, meaning they have not consumed any canon or fic for this fandom before. Then create a multivoice audio fanwork in that fandom, where at least one of those fandom newbies contributes their voice.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes, +10 if you are a fandom newbie lending your voice.

WE ARE EVERYWHERE:
Create avant-garde location-based audio art with your team! Each team member should think of one or more unique places they could plausibly record from. Choose a single sentence for team members to record in each place, with the only change being the name of the location. (For example, a team could choose the sentence "I am creating art [describe the location]" and examples could be "I am creating art in the bath," "I am creating art beneath four cats," etc.) Edit all the clips together. The minimum number of clips is 5—bonus for each clip after that.

You have our permission to get weird with this one.

Point value: 10 points for each player who contributes, +1 per each additional unique location after the first 5, with a maximum of 50 points.

TRANSFORM, TRANSFORM, TRANSFORM!:
Players make a transformative chain with at least three links. At least one of the links must be an audio fanwork. For example, one player writes a fic, other players make a podfic and fanmix based on the fic, some players make a filk based on one of the songs from the fanmix, other players make art and an oral not!fic based on the filk, and so on! (Click here for a helpful visual of all that!) A chain does not have to be linear—what’s important is that all transformative works (except the first one) are based on at least one earlier work in the chain. Players can contribute to more than one link in a chain and get points for each link they contribute to. Players can contribute to as many different chains as they want.

Point value: 35 points for each player who contributes to a link on the chain; each link is its own submission.

2026 MAY - ALBUM CHALLENGE

Apr. 30th, 2026 06:48 pm
peppermint_shamrock: a clip-art peppermint candy (Default)
[personal profile] peppermint_shamrock posting in [community profile] lyricaltitles
Album Challenge returns! It will run during the month of May (though entries will be accepted afterwards).

The challenge is to take an album of your choice and for each song, write a fic, using a lyric from the song as the title. This is a low-stakes, personal challenge, of course; there's no penalty for not finishing or running late.

The AO3 collection can be found here.
If the collection name doesn't appear in the dropdown when posting your fic, you can either use the Post to Collection button, or manually enter LyricalTitlesAlbumChallenge2026. Even if the drop-down doesn't find it, it will be added to the collection without trouble.

Rules, Guidelines, and FAQ:

All works must be your own and not previously posted.
All works must use either the title of the song or a portion of its lyrics as the work title.
Works have a minimum wordcount of 100 words.
Please indicate the album name, song title, and artist in each entry for this challenge. You're not required to link to the song, but feel free to do so if you want!
Work text should be under a cut or linked offsite. Please indicate any warnings in your post.
You can begin working on the fics at any time, but please don't post them until May.

What kind of works are allowed?
All fandoms and original work are allowed. Works must be your own and not previously posted, but do not need to be exclusive to this event - they can also be used as entries for concurrent events. This is a writing focused event, and there is a minimum wordcount of 100 words, and no maximum wordcount.
What kind of music is allowed?
Any genre of music is welcome. For this challenge, songs used should all be from the same album.
How many fics do I need to write?
That's up to your choice of album! There's no minimum or maximum length, so you can set the pace of this challenge. A small EP, a big compilation album, or anything in between, is all permitted.
Do the songs/lyrics I pick need to be in English?/Can I translate non-English lyrics?
You can use songs from any language. Titles/Lyrics may be in their original language, or you may translate them if you wish. For that matter, works can be in any language as well.
There's an instrumental song on the album, can I still use it?
Since both lyrics and titles of songs are allowed as the work titles, an instrumental song can still have a work written for it. If you don't think you can make that title work, however, you can skip that song.
Someone is already doing the album I wanted to do, do I need to pick something else?
No, multiple people can use the same album.
Do I need to post in the same order as the songs on the album?
You can if you want to! But it's not required.
Do the lyrics need to be incorporated into the work?
No, this event is focused on titles, lyrics do not need to be used in the work itself.

Have fun!

Any questions, comments, or suggestions? Please don't hesitate to ask below! Feel free to tell everyone what album you're planning on using, if you want!
